John Sommers II is a Kentucky-based photographer/photojournalist that has spent his career working in all areas of photography from editorial to commercial coverage. With 20 years of experience as a photojournalist, John brings unique skills that lets him navigate seamlessly between the worlds of print and online content creation.

John started his career working for a variety of news organizations, including the Louisville Courier-Journal, Lexington Herald-Leader, the Associate Press, and United Press International (along with a host of other news organizations from around the world). John continues working for Reuters News Services and Getty Images covering all areas of news, entrainment, and sports events. His work continues to appear in major publications around the world including: New York Times, Detroit Free Press, The Washington Post, MSNBC, USA Today, Sports Illustrated, The Guardian, Time Magazine, Transport Topics Newsweek, ESPN the Magazine, Greenpeace International, and more!

John has covered a wide verity of major news, sports, and political events around the country: National Basketball Association, National Football League, three Major League Baseball’s World Series, World Cup Soccer, F1 Racing, Indy 500, NASCAR, the U.S. Open Golf and Tennis Championships, Ryder Cup, PGA Championships, Kentucky Derby, Breeders’ Cup, USA Track and Field Championship, various NCAA sporting events, and other major events and natural disasters across the United States.

His commercial portfolio features work for American Trucking Association, Southern Govern Association, General Tire, Mickey Thompson Performance Tires, Focal Point Production, Deflecta-Shield Aluminum Products, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and Ford Motor Company.
